Andrew Lowenthal is executive vice president and co-head, along with Bryan Harkins, of the Cboe's Markets Division, formed in 2018.

He was previously senior vice president, business development, for the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe). He was promoted to that position from vice president in July of 2015, and his responsibilities were expanded to include the business development functions of the Cboe Futures Exchange (CFE). He also oversees business development for Livevol, which Cboe acquired in July 2015.[1] In this role, he also leads the Global Client Services group.[2]

Background

Lowenthal began his career with the Cboe in 1983, serving in trading operation, regulatory services, strategic planning and business development division roles.

As CFE managing director, Lowenthal was responsible for developing all business and operational aspects of CBOE’s futures exchange, including marketing and sales, member relations, and the exchange’s market-making program.[3][4]

Lowenthal served on the exchange’s screen-based trading committee, where he was instrumental in the design of the CBOEdirect trading system and currently serves on the CBOE Equity Market Performance committee.

Professional and Personal Affiliations

Lowenthal previously served as a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Futures & Options Association.[5]

He is also a past president of the board of directors of Renaissance Social Services, a non-profit group that offers support programs for affordable housing, and he currently serves on the Children of the Survivors Committee for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Education

Lowenthal attended the University of Michigan and holds a BS in Business from DePaul University and an MBA in Operations Planning from DePaul University. Lowenthal also attended the Securities Industry Institute at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.[6]

MarketsWiki Education Video, August 2015

"We are constantly looking for new tools that we can bring into the fold here at CBOE to grow our products and customer base."

Andy Lowenthal is part of a rare breed - a "lifer." After finishing college, he took a job with CBOE as a price reporter. Thirty-two years later, he is one of the executives looking at the future of the exchange as it moves from a domestic exchange listing equity options, to a global technology firm with multiple revenue streams. Lowenthal showcases an industry on the hunt for new talent, and a key firm, CBOE, leading the charge, through acquisitions, partnerships and product innovation.
