Bond Connect is a mutual market access scheme that allows investors from Mainland China and overseas to trade in each other's bond markets through connection between the related Mainland and Hong Kong financial infrastructure institutions. It is a joint venture of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) and the China Foreign Exchange Trade System, launched July 3, 2017.[1]

Northbound Trading began on July 3, 2017, allowing overseas investors from Hong Kong and other regions to invest in the China interbank bond market (CIBM) through mutual access arrangements in respect of trading, custody and settlement.[2]

In June of 2019 Tradeweb became the first firm to provide offshore investors with access to the Bond Connect trading link.[3]
