Christopher Ehrman is the director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Whistleblower Office. He was named to the position in July 2013 after a 13-year career as an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).[1][2]

The whistleblower office was created by the Dodd-Frank Act as a program through which the commission may reward individuals who voluntarily provide original information about violations of the Commodity Exchange Act.[3]

Background

Ehrman began his career by spending six years in private practice covering securities-related matters. In 2001 he joined the SEC as a staff attorney, and worked his way through several positions including senior counsel, branch chief and ultimately assistant director of the SEC Office of Market Intelligence (OMI). While at the OMI, he oversaw the processing, review and assignment of all tips, complaints and referrals received by the SEC, a role similar to that of the CFTC Whuistleblower Office.

Education

In 1989, Ehrman earned a bachelor's degree from Miami University (Ohio). He later earned a JD from University of Kentucky College of Law.
