James Toffey is global head of electronic markets at GFI Group Inc. He was appointed to the position in June 2013 and is responsible for GFI's electronic marketplaces in cash and derivatives products.
Toffey was founder of Tradeweb Markets LLC, a joint venture with four banks in 1997, where he served as president and CEO from inception until 2008. At Tradeweb, he developed the platform for OTC fixed income and equities trading, as well as creating workflow solutions for the financial marketplace.
After leaving Tradeweb, he served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Warburg Pincus LLC. He then went on to found Benchmark Solutions, Inc., a real-time pricing service for corporate bonds and credit default swaps, where he served as CEO. The data service, which was funded by Warburg Pincus, had to shut down when funding ran out after 18 months of operations.
He earned his bachelor of arts from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth.
