Richard J. Dennis
|Richard J. Dennis|
Richard J. Dennis is a well-known commodity trader. He is politically active, supporting libertarian and other causes. Dennis has been president of the Chicago Resource Center, a grant-making private foundation. He also has served on the boards of the CATO Institute and the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations.
To settle a bet with his friend and business partner, Dennis taught his trend-following trading methodology to 23 non-traders in a two-week seminar. Dennis believed that trading skills could be taught, whereas his partner William Eckhardt believed that innate instincts were necessary for trading success. The majority of Dennis' students, known as the Turtles, were successful and Dennis won the bet.
Dennis graduated from DePaul University with a BA in philosophy.
