Janet M. Angstadt is executive vice president and general counsel at OCC. She was named to the post in June 2019.[1]

Before that, she served as a partner and head of the financial services practice in the Chicago office of law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman. Her practice is focused on broker-dealer and exchange compliance, specifically with Securities and Exchange Commission and FINRA regulations. She joined Katten in 2007 from NYSE Arca, where she served as general counsel.[2]

She advises clients on issues surrounding Regulation NMS, order routing, alternative trading system such as dark pools and ECNs, and other market structure issues.

Angstadt is a member of the Illinois Bar and SIFMA. She also serves on the governing board of Econ Illinois, an affiliate of the Council for Economic Education, which helps schools integrate the teaching of economics.[3]

Background

Before joining Katten, Angstadt spent seven years in the exchange sector, first as deputy general counsel for Archipelago Holdings and, after its acquisition by NYSE, as general counsel for NYSE Arca. Before that, she served as senior vice president and director of capital markets compliance at Everen Securities.[4]

Her first job after earning her law degree was as a counsel in the Securities and Exchange Commission's Capital Markets Division, where she spent four years before moving to the private sector as an associate attorney for Schiff Hardin LLP.

Education

Angstadt earned a BA from St. Olaf's College in 1986 and a JD from DePaul University in 1990.
