Thomas F. Cashman is an attorney, trader and member of a prominent Chicago Board of Trade family.
Cashman was a full member of the Chicago Board of Trade beginning in 1997, having worked as both an independent trader and a broker in the futures market. During his time on the trading floor, he was involved with several committees including the Floor Governors Committee, in which he served as vice-chairman in 2005-2006 and as chairman in 2007-2008.
After the CBOT became part of CME Group, Cashman served as co-chairman of the Business Conduct Committee from 2009-2012.
After earning his law degree in 1993, Cashman began his career with Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon. In 1994, he decided instead to pursue a career at the CBOT. He joined the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange in 1995, and, in 1996, obtained a membership in the CBOT's IDEM division. In 1997 he joined the exchange as a full member, and began working as an independent broker in the soybean futures pit. He worked as a soybean broker until 2004, when he began as an independent trader.
Cashman is licensed to practice law in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
Thomas F. Cashman is the son of Thomas J. Cashman, a 50-year member of the CBOT.
Cashman holds a bachelor of arts degree (Program of Liberal Studies, 1989) from the University of Notre Dame, graduating cum laude. In 1993 he earned a Juris Doctorate degree (with honors) from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he was graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif legal honor society.
He was also an Articles Editor on the Wisconsin Law Review while at the University of Wisconsin Law School.
